FOR BANKS & LENDERS

You Survey the Boat.
Nobody Surveys the Driver.

Before you finance a boat, you require a marine survey of the hull. The person who will operate it gets no check at all. Trusted Boater is the operator-side survey: an objective, on-water assessment with a certificate your team can verify in seconds.

38%

of Travelers boat and yacht claims were collisions — the leading cause of damage to the boats lenders finance1

3 of top 5

accident causes were operator inattention, improper lookout and operator inexperience2

~70%

of boating deaths occurred where the operator had no boating safety instruction2

400+

vetted assessors across 36 states; 54% are former military, law enforcement or first responders

WHY IT MATTERS TO A LENDER

The Riskiest Loan in the Book Is a First-Time Buyer on a Boat They Have Never Driven.

Boat lending already checks the borrower’s credit and the boat’s condition. The one input nobody checks is whether the borrower can operate what they are buying.

Protect the collateral

Collisions, groundings and dock strikes damage the asset securing the loan. Most of them come down to how the boat is handled.

Know the first-time and step-up buyer

The borrowers you know least about are the ones moving into their first boat or a much bigger one. A verified result replaces a guess.

Reward proven operators

Offer better terms or a dedicated program to borrowers who hold a current Trusted Boater credential, on terms you set.

Works at the branch and the dealer desk

Most boat loans start at a dealer’s finance desk. The program works there too, so it follows your loans wherever they originate.

One Standard. One Clear Answer: Can They Operate the Vessel?

Everything in this section is built and in use.

Step 1

We assess

An independent assessor runs the borrower through an on-water evaluation aboard their own boat: 42 skill categories and 486 observable items, from lookout and the rules of the road to docking, stopping and person-overboard recovery.

Step 2

The rubric decides

Every skill is scored against one published rubric designed by a retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander, using a patent-pending scoring process. The assessor administers it; the rubric determines the outcome. Every critical skill that applies must be met.

Step 3

You verify and decide

The borrower receives a certificate with a QR code and certificate number. Your team confirms it in seconds, with no system integration, and you set what it unlocks.

Live

Professional assessors

400+ vetted assessors across 36 states. Each is background-checked, matched to the vessel class and observed on the water by our team before assessing. 54% are former military, law enforcement or first responders.

Live

Conflict rules enforced by software

No assessor may assess someone they trained in the last three years, or anyone they have a family, employment or business tie to — including the dealer who sold the boat. Conflicted pairings are blocked at booking.

Live

A record that holds up

Every assessment is recorded skill by skill, with the date, the assessor and the outcome. A credential is valid for five years.

BUILT FOR YOUR COMPLIANCE TEAM

Nothing in Your Credit Policy Changes During the Pilot.

The bank earns nothing on the assessment, and Trusted Boater pays the bank nothing. Borrowers book directly with us. After the pilot, you decide whether and how to use the credential in your lending, and we will walk your compliance team through the options.
What we cannot tell you yet

No One Has Loan Data on Operator Skill.

Nobody can yet say how a verified competency result relates to collateral damage, delinquency or loss on a boat loan, because operator skill has never been measured at scale. We will not show you a number we do not have.

The pilot gives you the first look at your own borrowers: how many meet the standard, and where the gaps are. We report results as indicative until at least 250 completed assessments, and we report correlation, not causation.

THE PILOT

A Pilot in Your Market. See How Your Borrowers Score, Then Set Your Own Standard.

Pilot cities are Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa–St. Petersburg, the Florida Keys and Jacksonville; other cities can be added by agreement. Borrowers can be referred at the branch or the dealer desk, and they book directly with us. A pilot can run at no cost to the bank.

  • A baseline report. The first look at how your borrowers actually score, including first-time and step-up buyers
  • You set the level. You decide whether, and at what level, to use the credential after the pilot
  • Certificate verification for your team during the pilot
  • We never need your customer list
What we are not asking for: no change to your credit policy during the pilot, no system integration and no exclusivity.
